PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital recorder that attains seamless recording where no missing video image/audio noise is in existence in joints of recording, even in the case of the recording through high efficiency coding. SOLUTION: A final block which has been recorded previously is reproduced from a recording medium, and a memory 5 stores only video data and audio data that are not null data. A MUX/DEMUX3 mixes new video data and audio data for seamless recording, joins the mixed data to data which have been stored in the memory 5 and supplies to an error correction section 4. The error correction section 4 adds an error correction code by each block with a prescribed data length, similarly to the case with a normal recording and supplies the result to the recording medium as recording data. Then the error correction section 4 conducts seamless recording on the recording medium, so as to overwrite the final block of the preceding recording.
