PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control system for electric appliances which can sufficiently enhance the feature of the remote control system employing electromagnetic wave communications not limited to a visible range or a propagation range, which does not require power for its circuit at initial start for remote control and which can make standby power/useless power almost or entirely unnecessary. SOLUTION: The remote control system for electric appliances requiring no standby power consumption is provided with an antenna 11 that receives the radio wave of a control signal from a remote controller as an electromagnetic wave or a meaningless idle signal at the initial state of operation, a detector 13 that detects electromagnetic energy from the radio wave received by the antenna 11, a capacitor 14 that is charged by the output of the detector 13, a 1st switch 16 that is operated when the voltage across the capacitor 14 reaches a prescribed value, and the controller that is controlled by the output of the 1st switch 16 to control the power supply voltage of electric appliances.
