PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an alkanesulfonic acid of high-purity by a safe process at low cost. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an alkanesulfonic acid of high- purity producing an alkanesulfonic acid (B) expressed by the general formula: RSO3 H. The method comprises (1) preparing an initial charging liquid containing the alkanesulfonic acid (B) and hydrogen peroxide, (2) adding an alkylmercaptan (A) and hydrogen peroxide to the initial charging liquid at a specific ratio (of the total of the hydrogen peroxide to the alkylmercaptan), and reacting them with each other, (3) aging the reaction liquid and (4) circulating the reaction mixture under heating to complete the reaction.
