PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stoker type incinerator and a method for incinerating thereby capable of improving incineration efficiency of the incinerator, reducing an unburnt content of combustible gas, and relieving an environmental load by decreasing an air introduction amount and increasing temperature in the incinerator. SOLUTION: In the stoker type incinerator 1, a substance 16 to be incinerated is supplied into a combustion chamber 7 through a refuse feed opening 2, is dried and thermally decomposed and further burnt while being sequentrally moved on a plurality of stoker stages having a wind box provided below. A wind box 5a located below at least one stoker stage of a plurality of stoker stages is divided into three pieces or more to the width direction orthogonally crossed with the moving direction of the substance 16 to be incinerated. The divided wind boxes are arranged in parallel to the moving direction. An air supply control part 27 is provided to change the oxygen partial pressure of the air supplied to every divided wind box and to regulate the oxygen partial pressure of wind box 22 located at the center of the width direction to be higher than the oxygen partial pressure of wind box 21, 23 located at both ends.
