PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation method of a heat exchanger for easily and economically removing a sticking object by cleaning a heat transfer wall surface at proper time before the sticking object excessively sticks and accumulates on the heat transfer wall surface on the side of a heating object fluid. SOLUTION: This operation method of the heat exchanger exchanges heat between the heating object fluid and steam for heating the heating object fluid via a heat transfer wall. Absolute pressure of the steam in the heat exchanger is increased according to a quantity of sticking object sticking to the heat transfer wall surface on the side of the heating object fluid, and the sticking object is removed when 1.01n/P1<1.8 on steam absolute pressure P1in the heat exchanger before sticking of the sticking object and steam absolute pressure Pnin the heat exchanger after sticking of the sticking object is satisfied while maintaining a heat transfer speed to the heating object fluid from the steam almost constant.
