Cold seawater is sent down pipework to a heat exchanger at great depth, returning via a riser at over 100degreesC. This terminates at a reservoir with vaporization nozzles above condensers. These condense the vapor. Low in the reservoir, brine flows out through a system preventing vaporization on reaching atmospheric pressure. The brine is returned directly to the sea.
