[Class 137] Seated enclosures such as vehicles are supplied with hot or cold air through openings in the seats either at ground level or at the top of the seat backs. Two seat units 1 located back to back enclose an air chamber divided into two portions 2<a>, 2<b> ; fresh air is admitted to one portion, say 2<a>, and issues through holes 8<a> in the back and through holes 5<a> beneath the seats. Vitiated air is withdrawn from the other portion 2b through similar holes. All the lower openings 5<a> can be used for distributing hot air, and all the upper openings for cold air. It is preferable to supply cold air through the openings 5b, 9 directed towards the gangway, and in this case the vitiated air is withdrawn through compartment 2<a>. In a modification, the air supply to below but seats may be controlled by a valve located below each seat. In Fig. 7 a heat-exchanger 31 is provided, a fan 30 supplying vitiated air from an inlet 24 in the roof and a fan 27 supplying fresh air through a heater 28 to ports 19 below the seats 2. Alternatively a cooler may be used in the conduit 29 and the directions of the air currents reversed.
