1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
a network controller configured to receive data via a network from an external device and transmit data via a network to an external device; a processor configured to process the data received by the network controller; an operation unit configured to receive, from a user, an instruction to enable a specific function regarding network transmission or reception; and a power control unit configured to, when a condition to shift the image forming apparatus to a power saving state is satisfied, if the specific function is enabled, shift the image forming apparatus to a first power saving state in which power is supplied to the processor and the network controller, and if the specific function is disabled, shift the image forming apparatus to a second power saving state in which no power is supplied to the processor and power is supplied to the network controller.
