<p>Cpds. of formula (I): (where R1 is H or opt. substd. lower alkyl or cycloalkyl; rings A and B are opt. substd. by one or more gps., e.g., NO2, CF3, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy), and their acid-addn. salts, are prepd. by oxidising a cpd. (II) of formula (I); =O is -CH2R2 in which R2 is halogen, CN, COOH (or a deriv.), opt. esterified or etherified OH, or NR3R4, R3 and R4 being H, opt. unsatd. acyl or alkyl, opt. substd. aryl, aralkyl or aryloxyalkyl, or NR3R4 being a heterocycle opt. contg. a further heteroatom which, when N, can be substd. or its acid-addn. salt with an oxidising agent (pref. KMnO4 or CrO3) in an inert solvent. Cpds. (I) have sedative and tranquillising activity.</p> |
