PATTERN SELECTING SINKER APPARATUS IN KNITTING MACHINE

Needle selectors in a knitting machine are electromagnetically displaced laterally away from a selector bed into an inactive position. Subsequent movement of the selector bed moves the non-displaced selectors longitudinally to position the corresponding needles in the knitting position. There is one electromagnet for each selector and all the electromagnets are mounted on a plate movalbe towards and away from the selectors. The electromagnets are energized only when positioned close to the selectors thus permitting small electromagnets to be used. Inadvertent energizing of adjacent electromagnets by leaking flux is avoided.
