<p>The process is for determining the position of an object, from which emanate signals in the form of wave movement transmitted in a medium. The object has sought-after coordinates in a system, and a number of microphones are grouped and mutually spaced. The distances between them are considerably greater than the wavelength of the wave movement. The microphones are grouped in known coordinate positions for probing signals at those points. After coorelation of the probed signals dependent upon their kind, the time taken for the signals to reach the microphones is measured for subsequent automatic calculation of the coordinates of the object using a computer or a calculator, programmed with an evaluation algorithm. Out of at least four grouped microphones spread out two-dimensionally in the horizontal plane two three-probe groups are selected, and the object coordinates are calculated from two mathematical equations involving the crossing points for two straight lines.
