PURPOSE:To alkylate selectively a mono-halogenated benzene at para-position, by bringing it into contact with an alkylating agent in the presence of a crystalline aluminosilicate having specific angle of diffusion and relative intensity in X-ray diffraction diagram at a specified temperature. CONSTITUTION:A monohalogenated benzene is brought into contact with 1-3C alkylating agent (e.g., methanol, ethylene) in a weight ratio of (1-10):1 in the presence of a crystalline aluminosilicate having angles of diffusion and relative intensity shown by the figure in X-ray diffraction diagram at 300-600 deg.C, to give a paraalkylmonohalogenated benzene. The crystalline aluminosilicate is called zeolite AZ-1. Since a ratio of acid points outside pores is extremely smaller than acid points in the pores, isomerization reaction to reduce para selectivity is little. USE:A raw material for flame-retardant polymer, and intermediate for various kinds of materials. |
