发明名称 Lengthening of the central pedal (sustaining pedal) in grand pianos and other keyboard instruments
摘要 The central pedal (sustaining pedal) of grand pianos and other keyboard instruments is lengthened, so that this pedal can be actuated with the heel while the other pedals are simultaneously operated with the toe. The central or third pedal (also called the sustaining or sostenuto pedal) has since the beginning of the twentieth century increasingly been fitted by grand piano manufacturers to their instruments, so that there are now few grand pianos which have no central pedal. In order with the state of the art, all three pedals are designed to be of equal length. The central pedal serves to sustain all the notes which are kept pressed down on the keyboard, while it is actuated, and sustains only those notes, and no others, even when the hand releases those notes and plays others, until the pedal is again allowed to return to its initial position. This function offers many attractive possibilities of sound enhancement for the entire piano repertoire and is therefore highly valued by many pianists and frequently included in scores by twentieth century composers. Unfortunately, only very sporadic use can be made of it by the majority, since the simultaneous use of the other two pedals, situated to right and left of the central pedal, often entails insuperable technical problems. In order to provide a remedy in this dilemma, a central pedal (sustaining pedal) is provided for all keyboard instruments of the piano family, which is characterised in that it is longer than ...
