PURPOSE:To prevent the pitting without deteriorating photomagnetic characteristics as a recording element, to control the oxidation of a magnetic film as the recording medium and to obtain the titled element having an excel lent environment resistant characteristic by incorporating a passivating element into a dielectric layer. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous metallic magnetic film 4 is formed directly or through a transparent dielectric layer 3 on a base body 2 of glass or plastics of a recording body 1. A dielectric layer 5 is formed on the magnetic film 4 as a protective layer. A passivating element is incorporated into the dielectric layer 5. Consequently, the pitting is prevented without deteriorating photomagnetic characteristics as a recording medium, the oxidation of the magnetic film 4 as the recording medium is controlled, and excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion can be obtained.
