The invention relates to artificial-lung breathing apparatuses. The apparatus forms a breathing circuit which comprises, arranged in series in the breathing circuit, a first artificial lung 1 designed to receive exclusively the exhaled gases and having means 7 for heating the gases released by the artificial lung, a filter cartridge 3 for removing carbon dioxide, located downline of this first artificial lung, and a second artificial lung 2 placed downline from the filter cartridge 3 to supply the gases for inhalation. The two artificial lungs are located in relative positions such that when under water the hydrostatic pressure tends to empty the first artificial lung into the second artificial lung through the filter cartridge. The invention applies to deep diving. <IMAGE>
