PURPOSE:To obtain the optical information faithful to the recording signal by providing a recording power control circuit to keep the recording power approximately at a fixed level to record the information '1' and controlling the semiconductor laser so that the recording power functioning to record the information '0' is increased gradually up to a fixed level of light intensity. CONSTITUTION:The intensity of a semiconductor laser 1 is controlled by the 1st or 2nd recording power setting circuit 4 or 5. Then the 1st or 2nd recording power is controlled by the 1st or 2nd switch circuit 2 or 3. Then, the circuit 2 or 3 conducts by an inverting circuit 7. Here, the recording power is set approximately at affixed level by the circuit 4 when the recording is executed. While the recording power set by the circuit 5 is increased gradually by a recording power control circuit 8. Thus, the low level side of the light intensity of the laser 1 is gradually increased and this light intensity is set at a high level when the rectangular wave signal is delivered under the control of a recording control circuit 6. Thus, it is possible to obtain an output waveform faithful to the recording signal.
