A mowing unit mountable on a tractor has a cutter bar 2 and a plurality of rotary-driven mowing members, especially mowing discs 8. A relief device having at least one spring 12 is provided for reducing the pressing force of the cutter bar 2 on the ground, the spring finally acting with one 15 of its supports on the cutter bar 2. The spring 12 is slidably supported on the ground 14 by means of its other support 16. The support point is arranged in the region of the cutter bar 2, and that support 16 of the spring 12 which is supported slidably on the ground is of sheet-like design. <IMAGE>
