The invention relates to a cooking utensil, e.g. pot or pan, with a container part made of stainless steel of relatively low wall thickness and with a relatively thick baseplate made of aluminium or a similar material of good thermal conductivity on the outside of the bottom of the container part, and also with a base disc, consisting at least partly of magnetizable material, on the outside of the base plate, the base disc essentially consisting of nickel or a nickel alloy, or having at least one intermediate layer made of nickel or a nickel alloy.
