In order to connect a battery pack up to a hand tool, a plug-in connecting device is proposed which comprises a circular plug (18) fitted to the battery housing (16) and a matching socket (3) in the hand tool. Both parts have concentric power contacts (8, 9, 26, 27) and click-in catch means (13, 19) which engage automatically with each other when the battery pack (16) is plugged in by inserting the plug into the longitudinal axis of the socket. Rotation through a small angle allows the catch means (13, 19) to be disengaged and the battery pack (16) to be removed for recharging.
