<p>A memory system having a moving memory recording media (8). A sector in each track on said media (8) includes recordings defining a synchronizing field (3a) and a start of data field (3b). Selected bit signals of bit signals (Q) derived from said recordings are simultaneously combined (GA) in a plurality of differing bit signal combinations (Q1, Q6 --- Q15, Q19, Q22). The simultaneously validity of all of the bit signals (Q producing A, B, C, or D) in each of a predetermined number ABC, ACD, ABD, BCD) of said differing bit signal combinations, which predetermined number (3 out of four of A, B, C, D) is less than the plurality of bit signal combinations (ABC, ACD, ABD, BCD), provides fault tolerant detection (SMDET) of said start of data field (36). <IMAGE></p> |
