PURPOSE:To discriminate automatically and quantitatively a welding operation by determining the values indicating the distribution condition of short circuit time and arc time in arc welding and discriminating the welding operation by combining these values. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed voltage is impressed between a wire 2 and base metals 4 by a welding power source 1 and the wire 2 is fed by feed rollers 3. The output voltage is measured by a voltage detector 3 and is amplified. Said voltage is sampled at prescribed intervals by an analog-to-digital converter 6 and the digital signal is inputted to a central processing unit 7. The short circuit time and arc time are determined from the signals in said unit and a welding index is calculated. The unit 7 judges the feasibility or infeasibility of changing the welding voltage from the welding index and outputs the voltage data to a digital-to-analog converter 11 as necessary, by which the data is converted to an analog signal. An output control circuit 12 increases or decreases the output voltage of the power source 1 by said signal. The welding index is expressed by Y=aA+bB+c (a, b, c are constants) if the values indicating the distribution condition of the short circuit time and arc time are designed as A, B. |
