A movable pane (7) is mounted slidably in a frame (3) between open and closed positions relative to a fixed pane (5). In the closed position the edge (9) of the movable pane is adjacent to the edge (11) of the fixed pane, and supports a lock casing (33) housing a locking member (37). The locking member consists of a pin projecting from the face of the movable pane towards the fixed pane. The locking member is controlled by a push button (47) to move in a direction approximately parallel to the plane of the panes. The button engages in a passage (43) formed in a complementary locking member (35) attached to the edge of the fixed pane.
