An electric door-bell is operated by a coil (12) situated between two plates (11A, 11B) which emit the chimes when struck by an armature (13). It incorporates a return spring (18) which is connected at one end to the armature and at the other to the coil. The coil winding (14) is supported by a body (15) of an insulating material, to which the return spring is connected and which contains a guide tube (16) for the armature. The spring is located coaxially with the armature and is fitted to an annular groove in the projecting end of the guide tube.
