PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent pictures and characters printed on a thick paper sheet from being grazed or peeled when the paper sheet is discharged by providing a paper discharge roller, a member for pressing the paper sheet to the roller and a drive section capable of separating the pressing member from the paper sheet. SOLUTION: When printing on a paper sheet 1 by a thermal head 2 is completed, the paper sheet 1 in pinched between proximity sections by a roller 7 and a paper discharge cover 8 and is discharged to a discharge port. When the thick paper sheet 1 such as a postcard is printed, a push rod 11 is operated downward by the rotation of a motor section 15 and an elastic member provided at the support pint 9a of a support member 9, and one end 8a of the paper discharge cover 8 is separated from the paper discharge roller 7. One end 8a of the paper discharge cover 8 is separated, the paper sheet 1 is not pressed to the paper discharge roller 7, thus the characters and pictures printed on the paper sheet 1 are not rubbed or grazed by the paper discharge cover 8.
