PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst component which has a high polymerization activity and gives a polymer having an excellent stereoregularity and a wide distribution of the molecular weight by blending, magnesium, titanium, a halogen, and a polycarboxylic acid ester as its essential components. SOLUTION: A polycarboxylic acid ester of the formula is used. In the formula, Z is a hydrocarbon; n is 1-7; and R1 and R2 are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon different from each other. A catalyst component is obtained by blending a magnesium compound, a titanium compound and the multivalent carboxylic acid ester. As the titanium compound, a compound of Ti(OR)nX4-n (wherein R is a hydrocarbon; X is a halogen; and 0<=n<=4) can be mentioned. The magnesium compound, preferably, does not have a reducing property and further preferably contains a halogen. For the polycarboxylic acid ester, Z is preferably an aromatic hydrocarbon group. This catalyst component is used with an organic metal compound catalyst component.
