PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform double sided printing even when an ink jet printer having a double sided printing function or ink jet printer having no double sided printing function is connected to a host. SOLUTION: When a double sided printing mode is designated, the host inquires whether double sided printing is possible or not to a printer (step 6) and when it is answered double sided printing is possible (step 7), a printing command for double sided printing mode is prepared and transmitted to the printer (steps 9 and 10). When it is not answered double sided printing is possible (step 7), a printing command for odd-numbered pages is prepared and transmitted to the printer (steps 11 and 12) and when a user inputs preparation OK (step 16), a printing command for even-numbered pages is prepared and transmitted to the printer (steps 17 and 18).
