PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine which facilitates construction of a flexible structure at a tunnel joint portion, and to provide a method for constructing the tunnel joint portion, using the shield machine. SOLUTION: A shield machine S has a steel shell which includes therein an excavating mechanism (a cutter bit 21 and a cutter 22), a propelling mechanism (a shield jack 31), and an earth discharging mechanism (a slurry feeding pipe 32 and a slurry discharge pipe 33). The steel shell 10 is divided into a hood portion 20, a girder portion 30, and a tail portion 40. In the thus constructed shield machine S, a flexible member (flexible ring K) is interposed between the hood portion and the girder portion, and further the steel shell and the flexible member are for use as tunnel lining members.
