PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester which produces reduced stains in a treating vessel and pipings upon treating polyester chips with water, leaves less foreign taste and odor when moldings are manufactured from polyester chips, gives bottles of good transparency and good crystallization at the mouth-stopper section, and hardly occurs mold stains upon molding. SOLUTION: In a process for manufacturing a polyester comprising treating polyester chips with water in a treating vessel, the water treatment is effected by introducing water having a chemical oxygen demand(COD) of 0.1-2.5 mg/l from the outside of the system.
