PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic stop/start control device capable of prolonging the auto-stop time of an engine for equipping it with an enhanced fuel consumption and exhaust gas purifying performance. SOLUTION: The automatic stop/start control device for an engine to be mounted on a vehicle is structured so that the engine is stopped automatically in case the auto-stop conditions are met including the situation that the vehicle speed is zero while the engine is in operation and the engine is started automatically in case the auto-start conditions are met while the engine is in auto-stop mode, wherein a vehicle speed sensor to sense the speed of the vehicle is installed to serve for determining the duration from the vehicle speed varying rate per unit time of the sensed vehicle speed, and a controlling means controls so that the engine is stopped automatically after elapse of the specified duration since the vehicle speed became zero in case the auto-stop conditions are met including the situation that the vehicle speed is zero.
