PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote controller capable of setting the operation mode of an instrument simply and explicitly. SOLUTION: The remote controller 28 is provided with a character data memory unit 43, storing the content of an operation mode corresponding to respective operating switches and various kinds of set data by a sentence, and a set timer 45, initiated at every times when the operating switches are operated to count non-operation time in a predetermined period of time. When the operating switch is operated, the content of an operation mode corresponding to the operating switch is indicated in a dot matrix type indicator 31 by letters during setting the data and upon count up of the non-operation time after setting the data, definite operation mode is outputted by a voice through a speaker.
