PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a visual field excellent by suppressing the glare to eyes even when the lightness of an external field varies with respect to a retina scanning display device. SOLUTION: An external image 20 is captured by an electronics device 10 and sent as elements of the image to a horizontal and vertical scanner 12. A modulation light source 11 sends source laser light to the horizontal and vertical scanner 12, wherein the source laser light is added to the elements of the image to become a laser beam; and the horizontal and vertical scanner 12 makes a scan with the laser beam and the laser beam is converged by a lens 13 in a helmet device 30 and made incident on the eye 14 of a human to display the image on the retina 15 by scanning with the laser beam. An optical detection sensor 25 detects the lightness of the external field, a light intensity calculation part 26 calculates variation in the lightness of the external field, and a light intensity adjustment part 27 controls the lightness of the modulation light source 11 according to the variation in the lightness of the external field, thereby suppressing the glare.
