PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gaseous substance-detecting method that can greatly improve detection sensitivity with improved reproducibility, and uses a carbon nano tube. SOLUTION: The gaseous substance-detecting method which detects a gaseous substance based on electric behavior that is shown by a carbon nano tube under the presence of the gaseous substance, and in which a multilayer carbon nano tube is used as the carbon nano tube, includes a process for exposing the multilayer carbon nano tube to a target ambient, and a process for measuring the conductivity of the multilayer carbon nano tube based on the exposure.
