PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal alignment treatment agent for obtaining a polyimide based liquid crystal alignment layer having an excellent voltage holding ratio, reduced charge-storage and excellent in liquid crystal alignment properties and resistance to rubbing treatment of a coated film as uses for various display elements using a nematic liquid crystal and to provide a liquid crystal display element using the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal alignment treatment agent for obtaining the alignment layer of the nematic liquid crystal by performing the rubbing treatment after the coated film is formed contains at least one of a polyamic acid obtained by reacting a group of tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides with a group of diamines containing a diamine having a structure represented by formula (1) and a polyimide formed by dehydrating and ring-closing the polyamic acid. In the formula (1), X denotes a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group and Y1 and Y2 each denotes a primary amino group or a monovalent organic group having one primary amino group. In the liquid crystal display element, the liquid crystal alignment treatment agent is applied on a pair of substrates having electric poles to form the coated films, the coated films are rubbed to form the liquid crystal alignment layers and the nematic liquid crystal is interposed between the liquid crystal alignment layers formed on a pair of the substrates.
