PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device that offers good recording quality by performing reproduction evaluation immediately after recording when recording data onto a recording medium.SOLUTION: A recording and reproducing device of the present disclosure includes; a light source; an optical system configured to split light from the light source to form a first light spot and a second light spot on a recording medium; a recording circuit configured to drive the light source and modulate light intensity of the light source, and to modulate the light intensity of the light source in accordance with information being recorded to record the information onto the recording medium using the first light spot; and an evaluation circuit configured to reproduce and evaluate the information recorded on the recording medium using the second light spot during a period in which the recording circuit makes the light source emit light of constant intensity.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
