1320378 Welding by fusion FRIEDRICH UHDE GmbH 20 Aug 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 40139/70 Heading B3R In the welding together of a piece of copper 1 and a piece of titanium 2, the pieces are arranged with a gap 5 between them, inert gas is passed through the gap and the copper is pre-heated while the titanium is shielded from premature heating, by the gas stream. As shown, a titanium anode 2 for electrolytic use has welded thereto a copper sleeve 1 serving for current supply to the anode. Pressure of the inert gas maintains the gap 5. Preheating of the sleeve, to 800‹ C., is achieved by a heater 7. An exterior tack weld 8 is succeeded by an interior circumferential weld made using a titanium electrode. The parts to be welded can be clamped at the desired spacing. |
