1414015 Manufacture of calcium hypochlorite OLIN CORP 14 May 1973 [30 May 1972 12 March 1973] 22851/73 Heading C1A A continuous process for the manufacture of calcium hypochlorite comprises chlorinating an aqueous slurry of lime and sodium hypochlorite in a mixing zone to form a sodium chloride solution containing large crystals of calcium hypochlorite which are separated and dried, the resulting solution containing some dissolved calcium hypochlorite being reacted with a alkali metal hydroxide to precipitate lime, which is separated and recycled to the mixing zone slurry. The lime-free solution may be used as bleach liquor or processed to precipitate solid salts useful in the preparation of brine. Any solution remaining is recycled to the mixing zone slurry. An aqueous slurry of impure lime may be chlorinated and, after separation of solids, the solution may be passed to the mixing zone. |
