[Also in Division E2] Wing headed fasteners 10 (see Divisions E1- E2) used to releasably secure a cabinet backing 23 to a cabinet 24, are applied to the cabinet by a compressed air tool 14 of known form, but provided with an attachment 12 comprising a pair of plates 13, 13a forming an aperture 20a therebetween through which nails 20 in a magazine 22 are forced by a piston (18), Fig. 8 (not shown), upon actuation of a trigger (22a), Fig. 1 (not shown). Each fastener is held by edges 17, 17a of a pair of noses 15, 15a on the attachment which are positioned in a slot in the backing 23 with the wing portions of the fastener positioned across the slot. Operation of the trigger releases a nail into the fastener and into the cabinet and releases the fastener from the noses 15, 15a. In the arrangement according to Fig. 9, the fasteners are carried on a tape 38 which is fed from a drum 36 through an aperture on the underside of a plate 46 which allows the tape to be pulled through the aperture until a fastener abuts a side of the aperture. Nails are carried in a clip (42), Fig. 12 (not shown). A safety catch 48 is associated with a trigger 39 and prevents operation of the tool unless a fastener is positioned in the slot in the cabinet backing. A pawl mechanism 54 prevents backward movement of the tape after it has been pulled through the plate 46, the mechanism comprising a pair of spring-loaded pivoted arms 56 carrying spaced-apart gears 61, 62, Fig. 14 (not shown). |
