1367103 Fire-extinguishing compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 Nov 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56742/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Solid fire-extinguishant compositions containing compounds of empirical formula MC 2 N 2 H 3 O 3 , M being sodium or potassium, are obtained by reacting urea with carbonic salts of sodium or potassium, the reaction mixture being in the form of a solution or slurry in a liquid medium in which the solubility of urea at the reaction temperature is at least 1% by weight and the reaction temperature being such that the liquid medium is removed by evaporation. The reaction may be effected, e.g. at a temperature of at least 100‹ C. by spraying or atomizing a solution or slurry of the reactants in a chamber where there is a flow of hot gas. An inert solid, e.g. a fire-extinguishing agent or a powder having a particle density greater than 1À8 gm./c.c. may be incorporated into the solution or slurry. |
