PURPOSE:To make effective use of recording tracks and perform recording and reproducing of high density by disposing the specific magnetic legs in opposition to a magnetic shunt device disposed on the surface of a magnetic recording medium and extending to the edge portion of its side face. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 5 comprises integrally forming a magnetic leg 5a and a magnetic leg 5b magnetically coupling thereto, in U-form, the magnetic leg 5a being disposed in proximity to the surface of a magnetic recording medium 2 having a vertical magnetziation easy axis and the magnetic leg 5b being disposed extending from the magnetic leg 5a in opposition to the medium side face 2a. A magnetic shunt device 7 of high magnetic permeability is disposed in opposition to the magnetic leg 5a on the back of the medium 2 and its one end part 7a is disposed extending in the width direction with respect to the medium side face 2c. At the recording and reproducing the end 5b1 of the magnetic leg contacts one end part 7a and the medium 2 travels in the space between the magnetic leg 5a and the device 7. Recording/reproducing are then accomplished by a coil 6. |
