A method for producing a metal/resin composite structure according to the present invention is for producing a metal/resin composite structure which is obtained by joining a steel member and a thermoplastic resin member including a thermoplastic resin or a resin composition containing the thermoplastic resin. The method for producing a metal/resin composite structure according to the present invention includes: a first step for providing a metal plating layer including a metal that has a lower ionization tendency than that of iron and having a roughened surface opposite to the surface that is in contact with the steel member, on at least a surface where a joining portion of the steel member with the thermoplastic resin member exists; a second step for treating at least the surface of the metal plating layer with an inorganic acid; and a step for shaping the thermoplastic resin member so that at least a portion of the thermoplastic resin member is in contact with the surface of the joining portion of the steel member, and thereby joining the steel member to the thermoplastic resin member.
