The arrangement permits the remote control of switching on and off electrical equipment (11) from an exchange (10) in a telephone network, where the equipment is located with telephone subscribers (9). The exchange (10) and the subscribers (9) are connected to the same or different tele-stations within the network, each station (1,2,3) containing signal receivers (14) which receive primary signals from the exchange. These primary signals (20,21,22) cause the receiver to initiate connection (a,b) to one or more subscribers (9), and then transmit secondary signals (24) to them (9). Each subscriber has equipment (16) for receipt of the secondary signals (24) and to effect the switching on and off process. Signal transmission from the exchange (10) to the tele-stations (1,2,3) is via connections (4,5,6,7) for alarm monitoring, transmission, controls, etc., with the aid of computers or processors in the respective stations.
