PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of a packet switching network when a packet switching unit gives an additional function is provided, by equipping a data transmitting equipment with an interface to a circuit switching network in the packet switching network. CONSTITUTION:A packet arriving from circuit 11 is stored in temporary buffer memory 12 and this packet is supplied to packet-kind decision part 13 to decide on whether this is control packet 14, asynchronous data packet 15 from a data transfer equipment or synchronizing data packet 16. Packet 14 processed by control packet processing part 17 or packet 15 processed by asynchronous data packet processing part 18 is supplied to switching processing part 19 together with packet 16 to exercise control over a transfer path. Next, the packet, when addressed to an equipment connected to the packet switching unit, is supplied to packet-kind decision part 21 for a decision and transferred to a processor and synchronous data packets are divided into long and short packets by packet-kind decision part 26 and packet-length decision part 27 before being applied to packet transfer control part 31. |
