<p>Auxiliary fuel metering and transfer control system for an internal combustion engine, in particular a system which enables a gasoline engine to burn both gasoline and a gaseous auxiliary fuel. The system comprises a pressure vessel (10) for storage of propane, methane, natural gas or a similar gaseous fuel, a pressure regulator (12) for maintaining constant gaseous fuel pressure during operation of a gasoline engine using the system, a solenoid valve (20) to stop the flow of gaseous fuel if the gasoline engine ceases to operate, an auxiliary fuel metering and transfer control assembly (30) comprised of a transfer valve (40) and a metering valve (42), an auxiliary fuel nozzle (36) positioned in the Venturi of the carburetor of the gasoline engine and necessary fuel lines and electrical circuitry. Functionally, the system replaces both the idle circuit or system and the acceleration circuit or system of the carburetor. The metering valve (42) operates in response to changes in the intake manifold vacuum and changes in the air velocity in the carburetor. The transfer valve (40) operates in response to movement of the throttle linkage on the carburetor. </p> |
