PURPOSE:To achieve a magnetic recording medium with excellent durability, by forming a layer made of oxide and nitride through the surface nitrided for a ferromagnetic metal thin film layer with oxidized surface. CONSTITUTION:A polyester base film formed with a ferromagnetic metal thin film layer with oxidized surface is set to a lower surface of a base 2 of a device where the base 2 and a cold cathode type ion source 3 are provided up and down in a vacuum tank 1. After vacuum with an exhaust system 4, nitrogen gas is introduced to the source 3 from an introduction tube 5 linked to the source 3 is introduced to the source 3, a voltage is applied to a tungusten anode 6 of the source 3, a reverse bias voltage is applied between the source 3 and an electrode 10 to ionize the nitrogen gas, and the polyester base film 7 formed with the ferromagnetic metallic thin layer with oxidized surface receives the nitrogen gas to nitride the surface. |
