The invention relates to magnetic heads intended to make use of very narrow (30 to 50 mu ) tracks on advancing magnetic media. Whereas a conventional magnetic head comprises a working face consisting of a magnetic material in which there is a fine non- magnetic air gap, the magnetic head according to the invention comprises, by contrast, a working face consisting of a non-magnetic material (10 + 11 + 12) in which two fine magnetic layers (7), separated by an air gap and perpendicular to the working face, are included. This head is obtained by hot-press bonding onto a slice (21) of non-magnetic material a plate (20) itself composed of magnetic (16) and non-magnetic (17) layers: the plate (20) thus supported is ground down to obtain a thickness equal to the track width. Application to multiple and multitrack heads for computer and audiovisual applications. <IMAGE>
