<p>An apparatus for levelling the thickness of a running fiber lap fed to a textile fiber processing machine, includes a feed roller having a generally horizontal longitudinal axis and a feed table cooperating with the feed roller by defining therewith a nip through which the fiber lap passes. The fiber processing machine further includes a motor connected with the feed roller for rotating the feed roller, a lap thickness measuring device including a sensor element cooperating with the feed roller and undergoing excursions in response to thickness variations of the fiber lap runing between the feed roller and the sensor element and a control device connected to the measuring device for receiving signals representing the excursions. The control device is connected to the motor for applying rpm control signals thereto as a function of the thickness variations. The sensor element is separate from, and is movable relative to, the feed table, and the feed table has an aperture, and the sensor element cooperates with the feed roller through the aperture.</p> |
