PURPOSE:To improve reliability, by mounting an annular elastic member to the periphery of an internal gear, consisting of resin material, while providing said elastic member to be oppositely arranged through a clearance between the elastic member and a casing so that a predetermined shocking load can be absorbed. CONSTITUTION:A starter mounts a rubber ring 22 to the periphery of an internal gear 3 while forms a clearance 23 in the diametric direction between the rubber ring 22 and a front bracket 6. Under this condition, if a normal shocking load is applied to the internal gear 3, the internal gear 3 and the rubber spring 22 are flexed by the flexibility of themselves, absorbing a shock. While the starter, if a shocking load larger than said normal shocking load is applied to the internal gear 3, flexes it by its own flexibility in the diametric direction while also the rubber ring 22 in the diametric direction, absorbing the shock. A maximum flection amount of the internal gear 3 in the diametric direction is determined by the clearance 23, and its value is set to the predetermined optimum value in which the internal gear 3 can be prevented from being damaged due to its abnormal deformation. |
