It is known to wind thin web-like winding material, for example sheet-metal material of small thickness or metal foils, onto tube-shaped winding cores which consist of numerous plies adhesively bonded to one another and consisting of webs of paper or of cardboard and of which the covering web forming the outer circumferential surface consists of a flexible material, for example a textile material. However, such covering webs can have irregularities, and this can cause damage to the delicate winding material. To eliminate these disadvantages, in the winding core according to the invention the flexible outer circumferential surface is formed from paper 13 lined with a foam layer 12 or alternatively from a flexible paper lined with a plastic layer.
