The building safety net, especially for use on a building under construction to protect against people or objects falling e.g. from scaffolding, consists of elongated rectangular mesh panels which are attached to supports along the sides of the building so that they can be extended outwards to lie perpendicular to the walls. The supports (2) to which the mesh panels are attached are made with articulated parallelogram frames which allow them to be positioned at 90 degrees to the wall or folded up flat against it e.g. to provide protection for a flat roof. One of the vertical sides (10) of the parallelogram has brackets (17) for fixing it to the wall, and the diagonal from the top of this side to the opposite corner of the parallelogram can be equipped with a spring or a pulley cable to reduce the effort required to raise the support from its horizontal to its vertical position.
