In the patent application having the title "wide-band sound transducer system", the design of a sound transducer having almost ideal characteristics is described. The fact is known that the most widely used sound transducer, an electrodynamic drive system with a cone diaphragm or a hemispherical calotte, is not ideal. However, this principle is very inexpensive. Other systems are partially better but, as a rule, much more expensive. The faults of these sound transducer systems become very noticeable in a negative way with the introduction of digital sound recording in the field of entertainment electronics. There have been and there are a great number of attempts at building a better sound transducer. The patent application deals with a design which is very promising. It is based on the idea that an elastic vibrating spherical surface does not have an acoustic short circuit, very low mass and ideal radiating characteristics. It does not need an enclosure and functions in a single system from less than 20 Hz to greater than 20 kHz. As a consequence of the new principle, completely novel design solutions are also possible. A sound transducer having these characteristics and a price which is certainly not higher than the conventional loudspeaker boxes will probably be sold in great numbers.
